The Excelsior Amusement Park opened in 1925 on the shores of Lake Minnetonka in Excelsior, Minnesota. A streetcar line from Minneapolis delivered throngs of visitors to the park from Memorial Day to Labor Day each summer. Among the park’s many attractions were the Cyclone (a wooden roller coaster), the Ferris Wheel, Bumper Cars, The Whip, Boat Rides, The Carousel, and the Fun House.
For one ticket you were able to enjoy a variety of thrills in the Fun House. There was a spinning tunnel that had to be walked through, a room with a whirling floor that spun you off to the outside walls, arcade games, a gunny sack slide, and more.
The park was closed forever after Labor Day in 1973. Most of the rides were dismantled or sold off. The carousel was moved and can be found today at Valley Fair Amusement Park in Shakopee. A small booth from the park was salvaged and is located at the museum on the trolley line off of Water Street in Excelsior. The Fun House survives at a secret location and is the headquarters of the Funhouse Creative Group.
